What is InterStateD?

     An Action Roguelike Shooter with arcade vehicle combat. Bringing Addictive Shootem'up gameplay to the highways of astonishing worlds.  Destroy legions of enemy vehicles and powerful bosses with insane destruction and customize an ever increasing  arsenal of super weapons.

Overview:

InterStateD is a modern adaptation of the Classic Shoot'em Up that combines vehicle combat and Roguelike elements, to create a tight, addictive game play loop for the single player that favors rapid frantic firepower and destruction but with the finely tune precision of driving in a bullethell.

Core Design Pillars:

    • Classic Shoot'em Up gameplay elements w/ over the top arcade weapons
    • extremely tight technical Fast paced arcade style gameplay loop
    • Hover vehicles, Highway gang warfare,  in post modern metropolises

Challenges so far:

The smart basic way to make a shmup is to make the world scroll/move past the player to create motion. That wasn't giving me the physics based destruction I wanted so I've done it the "hard" way. The player moves at roughly 20k units per second, minus boost. But the rollover wrecks are F'ing sweet.

This high velocity is causing all kinds of headache complications with enemy pacing and tracking. I can't get the enemy turret to track fast enough to hit the player, so the solution is A: - create a "lead" target in front of the player for the turret to fire at, and B: give the projectile a very large hit box. Seems to work so far... but I have a lot more enemies/projectiles to make.
